Plastering That Leaves Walls Flat and Ready to Paint
Skims, boarding and patch repairs from the same team that renders houses across the Fylde Coast.
Plastering Done Properly
If you've been searching for a plasterer near me and found a list of renderers, don't click away. We do both. DKL is based in Thornton-Cleveleys and we've been plastering and rendering homes across the Fylde Coast for over 15 years. Inside or out, if a wall needs a flat, clean finish, it's our job.
Most of our plastering work is skimming: fresh skims on new plasterboard, re-skims over tired walls that have seen too many wallpaper strips, and patching where something has gone wrong. We also board out ceilings and stud walls, plaster new builds and extensions, and take on commercial and industrial jobs alongside the houses.
Because we render as well, you get one team for the whole lot. If you're having the outside of the house rendered and want the hallway skimmed while we're there, that's one quote and one point of contact instead of chasing two different trades. We're fully insured with public liability cover and quotes are free, in writing, usually within 48 hours.

Internal Plastering: Skimming, Boarding and Patch Repairs
Skimming is the bulk of it. A fresh skim takes a rough or tired wall back to a smooth surface that's ready for paint once it's dried out. If the old plaster is sound we can skim straight over it. If it's blown or crumbling we'll tell you straight, take it back to something solid and build it up properly rather than trapping a problem under a nice new coat.
Plasterboarding covers everything from a single ceiling to boarding out a full extension. Stud walls, dot and dab onto brick, ceilings, loft rooms: we board it, tape it and skim it so the whole thing is done by one pair of hands. And for the smaller stuff, patch repairs after a leak, a rewire or a knocked-about doorway are everyday jobs for us, not an afterthought.
External Plastering and Sand and Cement Work
Outside, plastering and rendering blur into each other, which is exactly why it helps that we do both. We work with traditional sand and cement as well as modern K-Rend and Weber systems, so whether a garden wall needs a proper sand and cement finish or a porch needs matching in to the existing house rendering, we've got the right mix for it.
External work takes more judgement than internal because the weather gets a say. Coastal properties round here take a battering from wind and rain off the sea, so the prep, the mix and the timing all matter. Over 15 years on the Fylde Coast has taught us when to crack on and when to wait a day, and the finish lasts longer for it.
Why It Pays to Use Renderers Who Plaster
Rendering and plastering meet at the edges of a job, literally. When we render a house, the window and door reveals need finishing inside as well as out. Renderers who don't plaster leave that for someone else. We just do it. Same goes after new windows are fitted: the reveals usually need patching and skimming, and it's a quick job for us rather than a hunt for another trade.
It also means better diagnosis. Damp patches on internal plaster often start with cracked render or a failed patch outside. A plasterer on their own will skim over it and the stain comes back. Because we handle render repair too, we can find the cause on the outside, fix it, then make good inside. One visit, one invoice, and the problem actually solved.
How We Price Plastering Jobs
No two plastering jobs price the same, so we don't guess from the kerb. Tell us what you're after, send photos if it's a small patch, or we'll come and look at anything bigger. You get a free written quote, usually within 48 hours, with the price broken down so you can see what you're paying for. No pressure and no follow-up phone calls hounding you.
What moves the price is the state of the walls, not the size of the room. A straightforward re-skim over sound plaster is quick. Hacking off blown plaster, reboarding and building back up takes longer and costs more, and we'll always say so before we start rather than surprising you at the end. If you're combining plastering with rendering work, pricing it as one job usually works out better than two separate quotes. Call us on 07394 854 401 and we'll talk it through.
Plastering FAQs
It depends on the state of the walls more than anything. A re-skim over sound plaster costs a lot less than hacking off, reboarding and skimming from scratch. Rather than quote blind, we look at the job and give you a free written quote, usually within 48 hours, so you know the full price before we mix a bag.
Usually, yes. If the old surface is sound and well stuck we can prep it and skim straight over, which keeps the cost and the mess down. If it's blown, damp or crumbling, skimming over it just hides the problem for a year or two. We'll check it properly and tell you which one you're dealing with before we quote.
You need to let it dry out fully first. Fresh plaster turns from dark to a pale, even colour as it dries, often around a week depending on the room, the season and how much heat and airflow it gets. Paint it too early and you seal moisture in. When we finish we'll tell you when it's safe to get the rollers out.
No need to move out. Skimming is a wet trade rather than a dusty one, so most of the mess comes from prep, not the plastering itself. We sheet up floors and furniture, keep the work contained to the rooms we're in and clean up before we leave each day. Hacking off old plaster is the messy bit, and we'll warn you if your job needs it.
Both. Patch repairs after a leak, a rewire or new windows are a big part of our week, and we treat them the same as a full house. At the other end we plaster new builds, extensions and commercial and industrial units too. If it's plaster, we're interested. Call 07394 854 401 and tell us what needs doing.
