Plastering for Fleetwood Homes

The solid-wall terraces near the docks are the classic Fleetwood plastering job: old plaster that's blown off the brick, damp-scarred chimney breasts, ceilings that have seen a century of use. That side of the trade is ours too. We do skimming, re-skims, plasterboarding and full room replasters, internal and external.

There's a coastal angle to plastering here too. Wind-driven rain and condensation work on Fleetwood houses from both sides, and a lot of the internal damage we see traces back to walls that are saturated from the outside. Because we do the rendering as well, we can sort the cause and the symptom in one job with one quote.

What We See on Fleetwood Walls

  • Blown plaster on chimney breasts and gable walls in the old terraces
  • Salts coming through and leaving white, fluffy patches on solid walls
  • Ceilings cracked or stained after roof and gutter leaks
  • Crumbling lath and plaster in Victorian rooms that's past saving
  • Damp patches at low level where outside render has failed

If you're after a plasterer in Fleetwood for one room or the whole house, we'll give you a clean, flat finish and be straight with you about any damp we find. No point skimming over a problem that will come back through in six months.

Where We Cover in Fleetwood

Fleetwood's housing tells the story of the town. The streets near the docks and the front are full of Victorian and Edwardian terraces built in the fishing days, most of them solid brick with bay fronts. Around the Mount you get bigger period properties, and further out at Larkholme and Rossall it's mainly post-war semis and bungalows, plenty of them pebble dashed or roughcast when they were built.

Then there's the exposure. With the Irish Sea to the west and the Wyre estuary to the east, there's no sheltered side of Fleetwood. Salt spray, constant wind and driving rain find any weak spot in a wall, which is why render here fails faster than anywhere else we work. We also cross the estuary regularly for jobs in Knott End, Preesall, Hambleton and Stalmine.

We work right across Fleetwood, including The Mount area, Rossall and Larkholme, and out into the surrounding towns and villages.

Postcodes we cover: FY7.

Plastering Questions

It depends on the state of the walls more than anything. A re-skim over sound plaster costs a lot less than hacking off, reboarding and skimming from scratch. Rather than quote blind, we look at the job and give you a free written quote, usually within 48 hours, so you know the full price before we mix a bag.

Usually, yes. If the old surface is sound and well stuck we can prep it and skim straight over, which keeps the cost and the mess down. If it's blown, damp or crumbling, skimming over it just hides the problem for a year or two. We'll check it properly and tell you which one you're dealing with before we quote.

You need to let it dry out fully first. Fresh plaster turns from dark to a pale, even colour as it dries, often around a week depending on the room, the season and how much heat and airflow it gets. Paint it too early and you seal moisture in. When we finish we'll tell you when it's safe to get the rollers out.
