What Spray Rendering Actually Is
There's no special material involved. It's the same K-Rend, Weber and monocouche renders that any decent rendering company uses. The difference is how the render gets on the wall. A trowel puts it on one section at a time, and however good the plasterer, the thickness varies. The machine lays it on at a constant rate, pass after pass, so the coat is the same depth everywhere.
That even thickness matters more than most people realise. Render that varies in depth cures at different rates, which is where patchiness and weak spots come from. On through-coloured systems like monocouche, uneven depth can even show in the colour. Spraying takes that problem away, and it's why a sprayed elevation looks flat and consistent from the top of the gable to the damp course.
When Spray Beats Hand Application
Spray comes into its own on bigger areas. Full re-rendering jobs, new builds, extensions and tall gable ends are where the speed really counts, because we can coat a whole elevation before the material starts to go off. That means no dry joints partway up the wall where one mix ended and the next began. On a hand-applied job of that size, avoiding those joins is much harder work.
