Why Render Cracks and Blows on the Fylde Coast
Most failed render round here comes down to four things. Buildings move, and old sand and cement render is rigid, so it cracks. Rain gets into the crack, frost freezes it and pushes the render off the wall. Salt in the coastal air works at the surface year after year. And plain age: a lot of cement render on this coast has simply done its time.
Once render blows, it separates from the brickwork behind it. Tap it and it sounds hollow. Water tracks in behind the loose patch and spreads, which is how a small blown corner turns into a damp patch on your bedroom wall by winter. Catching it early is the difference between a straightforward render repair and a much bigger job later on.
How We Repair Cracked and Blown Render
We don't just push filler into a crack and hope. We cut the damaged render back to a sound edge, check the brickwork behind it and deal with whatever caused the failure. That might be a leaking gutter, a worn sill or movement in the wall. Fix the cause first, or the repair fails the same way the original did.
Then we patch with the right material for the wall, whether that's traditional sand and cement or a modern mix to suit a K-Rend or other silicone finish. We colour match as close as the existing render allows and feather the edges, so the patch blends in rather than shouting at you from across the street.
Repair or Re-Render? A Straight Answer
Here's how we call it. If the damage is local, the rest of the render is sound and the wall behind it is dry, a repair makes sense and saves you a lot of money. One or two cracks, a blown patch under a window, frost damage along the top of a gable: all good candidates for repair.
If the render sounds hollow across large areas, cracks keep coming back or damp shows in more than one room, patching is throwing good money after bad. Re-rendering the elevation, or the whole house, is the honest answer then. For scale, a typical 3-bed semi runs roughly £3,000 to £6,000 depending on system and prep, and K-Rend silicone lasts 25 to 30 years. Sometimes spending once beats patching every spring.

Plenty of firms won't get out of bed for a patch repair, which is why searching for renderers near me so often gets you nowhere on a small job. We're happy to take them on. A cracked corner, a blown patch round a bay window, render knocked about when a flue or soil pipe went in: if it needs sorting, we'll sort it.

It depends on the size of the patch, access and what caused the failure, so we won't guess a number here. A repair costs a fraction of a full re-render on the same wall. Send us some photos and you'll have a free written quote, usually within 48 hours.
It depends what's behind the crack. Fine surface cracks in otherwise sound render can usually be repaired. Cracks with hollow render either side, or cracks that keep reopening, usually mean the render has lost its grip on the wall and that area needs cutting out. We'll tap-test the wall and give you an honest answer either way.
We colour match as closely as the existing finish allows and feather the edges so the repair blends in. Painted render is the easiest, since the whole wall can be repainted in one go. On older weathered finishes we'll be upfront: never invisible, but hard to spot.
Mostly yes, with a bit of planning. Render needs the right temperatures and a dry spell to cure properly, so in winter we work around the forecast. If water is getting in, don't wait until spring: we can often make the wall watertight straight away and finish the cosmetic side when the weather allows.
Far less than a re-render. A full house takes 3 to 7 days and most repairs are a lot quicker, because we're only cutting back the failed area. We sheet up below the work, keep the dust down and take the waste away with us when we're done.
