Plastering in Preston
Plastering across Preston (PR1, PR2), about half an hour from our base.
Plastering for Preston Homes
The plastering half of the firm gets no rest in Preston. The city's older terraces and semis are full of walls that need skimming, patching or boarding out, and the steady run of extensions and loft conversions means there's always fresh plasterboarding waiting for a skim. We handle internal and external plastering right across the city.
In older Preston houses we're often following damp: blown plaster on solid external walls, crumbly patches low down where moisture has been getting in for years. We sort the cause first, then replaster. Skimming over a live damp problem just buries it for a year, and we'd rather do the job once and do it properly.

- Blown, hollow-sounding plaster on the solid walls of Victorian terraces
- Damp-damaged plaster low down on chimney breasts and external walls
- Artex ceilings that owners want boarded over or skimmed flat
- New plasterboard on extensions and loft conversions ready for skimming
- Rough old patch repairs from wiring and plumbing jobs that were never finished off
A lot of people find us by searching for a plasterer in Preston and end up using us for the outside of the house as well. Rendering and plastering from the same team means nothing falls down the gap between trades, and you've only got one number to chase.
Where We Cover in Preston
Preston has a bit of everything. Street after street of Victorian and Edwardian terraces around the centre, 1930s semis through Fulwood and Ashton-on-Ribble, post-war estates out at Ribbleton and new developments going up all over. A lot of the older houses are solid brick with no cavity, and plenty were cement rendered or pebble dashed decades ago. Much of that old render is now tired, cracked or blown, and it shows.
Rain does the rest. Preston has a reputation as one of the wettest cities in England, and years of driving rain find every hairline crack in old cement render. Water gets in behind, frost pops the render off the wall and damp patches start showing up inside. We also see a lot of extensions where the new render was never matched in properly to the original. Both come up in Preston all the time.
We work right across Preston, including Fulwood, Ashton-on-Ribble and Ribbleton, and out into the surrounding towns and villages.
Postcodes we cover: PR1, PR2.

Plastering Questions
It depends on the state of the walls more than anything. A re-skim over sound plaster costs a lot less than hacking off, reboarding and skimming from scratch. Rather than quote blind, we look at the job and give you a free written quote, usually within 48 hours, so you know the full price before we mix a bag.
Usually, yes. If the old surface is sound and well stuck we can prep it and skim straight over, which keeps the cost and the mess down. If it's blown, damp or crumbling, skimming over it just hides the problem for a year or two. We'll check it properly and tell you which one you're dealing with before we quote.
You need to let it dry out fully first. Fresh plaster turns from dark to a pale, even colour as it dries, often around a week depending on the room, the season and how much heat and airflow it gets. Paint it too early and you seal moisture in. When we finish we'll tell you when it's safe to get the rollers out.
